GABA(633mg)
As the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, GABA’s role is to act like a “brake” and balance excessive stimulation. GABA is associated with normal restful sleep, relaxation, tranquil thoughts, and a serenity of mind.

This natural formula contains the necessary precursors and cofactors for optimal GABA availability.
GABA is a neurotransmitter which acts like a “brake” to keep excitation in check. Too much excitation can lead to irritability, restlessness, and sleep disruption to name a few. GABA’s role as the main inhibitory neurotransmitter helps provide this function in the human body.
GABA is what is known as a self-inhibiting compound. This means, when you take more GABA than your body needs, it blocks its own transport into the brain to maintain constant, normal GABA concentrations. To circumvent this mechanistic limitation, we included the ingredients L-Citrulline, Rosmarinic Acid, and Grape Seed Extract. These natural ingredients work synergistically to both increase GABA’s transport into the brain and work to sustain elevated concentrations of GABA.
The main challenge in increasing brain levels of GABA via supplementation is circumventing the molecule’s inherent self-inhibiting characteristic. It is suggested that increasing GABA’s permeability across the blood-brain barrier is an effective target to increase brain levels of GABA. One way to do this is to increase vasodilation by upregulating nitric oxide (NO) production in the body.
L-citrulline is a precursor to the amino acid, L-Arginine, which has a potent effect on stimulating NO production. Additionally, grape seed extract has been shown to increase the production of Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase (eNOS), an enzyme used to generate NO from L-Arginine.
Once GABA is made more permeable and able to freely cross the blood-brain barrier with increased NO production, it is naturally broken down by the enzyme GABA-Transaminase (GABA-T). To attenuate the degradation of GABA by GABA-T we incorporated rosmarinic acid into our formulation, which has an inhibitory effect on GABA-T, thus allowing for sustained, elevated levels of GABA in the brain for a longer period of time.
Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid is a naturally occurring neurotransmitter with central nervous system (CNS) inhibitory activity. Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), converted from the principal excitatory neurotransmitter glutamate in the brain, plays a role in regulating neuronal excitability by binding to its receptors, GABA-A and GABA-B, and thereby causing ion channel opening, hyperpolarization and eventually inhibition of neurotransmission. [1]
GABA acts to slow down signals between neurons, making neurons less electrically excitable. [2]
Studies also show that It plays a role in neuronal stem cell differentiation, possibly giving it an important role in adult brain plasticity. [3]
Recently, research showed that with an increase in nitric oxide, GABA could more easily cross the blood brain barrier. Nitric oxide also causes GABA release in the hippocampus [4]. In a recent study, GABA supplementation by itself increased brain GABA 33%, but when combined with L-arginine, a stimulator of nitric oxide, brain GABA rose 383.3%. [5]
We chose to use L-Citrulline as the NO-booster in GABA Brain Food because it has been shown to be a more effective NO booster than L-Arginine [6,7,8,9]
Rosmarinic acid, present in rosemary, lemon balm, and other herbal agents known for their calming properties, inhibits GABA-transaminase, which slows the breakdown of GABA [10]
Grape Seed Extract can also upregulate the eNOS enzyme for a further boost to nitric oxide [11]
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH) is currently supporting research and studies on other potential abilities of grape seed extract to support healthy cellular function. [12]
As the main inhibitory neurotransmitter in the brain, GABA’s role is to act like a “brake” and balance excessive stimulation. GABA is associated with normal restful sleep, relaxation, tranquil thoughts, and a serenity of mind.
An amino acid found in foods like watermelon, dairy, beef and pork. L-Citrulline is converted into L-arginine, a known nitric oxide booster, which is theorized to help shuttle GABA into the brain across the blood-brain barrier.
Found in rosemary, sage, mint and basil, rosmarinic acid is a naturally occurring polyphenol flavonoid. It is also found in lemon balm and is used in aromatherapy to promote feelings of calm and relaxation.
Similar to L-citrulline, grape seed extract is used to increase nitric oxide production to help GABA pass across the blood-brain barrier and enter the brain.

I’ve been using GABA for over three years now and I won’t stop anytime soon. This Natural Stacks GABA version seems to be the only brand that is potent enough for me the feel the effects. Be aware though you may need to take for over a week to feel the full effects.

Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) is a neurotransmitter that blocks impulses between nerve cells in the brain. It is thought to be one of the most important chemicals responsible for reducing excess neural stimulation, among other functions.
The main function of GABA is to reduce activity in nerve cells and the nervous system. Research shows that when GABA levels are increased, there may be a positive natural calming effect in the brain. GABA's function is closely linked to many conditions such as depression, mood, anxiety, stress, and sleep.
GABA supplements are considered safe.
No, side effects from GABA supplementation are uncommon. No significant risks or side effects have been documented in the scientific literature.
GABA Brain Food is used to naturally increase the production and balance of the neurotransmitter GABA. Customers use GABA Brain Food to wind down from over-stimulation, stress, and anxiety. This formula is also used as a sleep aid, as GABA is the key neurotransmitter that helps us relax and prepare for restful sleep at night.
GABA Brain Food can be taken any time of day to support feelings of calmness, social ease, and relaxation. For best sleep results, we recommend taking a full serving of GABA Brain Food roughly one hour before bedtime.
Yes! In addition to its effects on mood and mental relaxation, GABA Brain Food acts as a one of a kind natural sleep aid. It can help improve sleep because GABA is the neurotransmitter that kick starts the sleep cycle.
It is important to note that GABA as an isolated compound is poorly absorbed by the brain. To improve upon this limitation, we formulated GABA Brain Food with a selection of key ingredients to effectively increase GABA's absorption into the brain, and to keep GABA levels sustained for longer periods of time.
Yes! GABA Brain Food was designed to work synergistically with the entire Natural Stacks Brain Food line of formulas. Acetylcholine and Serotonin stack naturally with GABA.
Dopamine and GABA can be taken in the same day, but we don't recommend stacking them. Dopamine is used to increase stimulation in the brain, while GABA serves to decrease stimulation. For best results try taking Dopamine in the morning and GABA at night.
For powerful mood support try taking GABA with Serotonin
For smoother social interaction try taking GABA with Acetylcholine.
GABA receptors are the "docking sites" in the brain that allow GABA molecules to bind and transmit chemical impulses. GABA works as the natural "key" to the GABA receptor's "lock," which is how inhibitory signals are transmitted between neurons.
GABA Brain Food works well with many different Natural Stacks.
