To make acetylcholine, the brain needs two elements: an acetyl group and a choline molecule.

An acetyl group is a type of simple molecular building block of organic chemistry with a chemical formula of C2H30. The acetyl group is usually present in the brain as Acetyl-CoA. Choline and the acetyl group are grouped together by the enzyme Choline Acetyltransferase (ChAT). 

They are both stored in neurons, released, and then broken down by another enzyme called acetylcholinesterase (AchE). To increase levels of acetylcholine, we use the following approach:

  • Create more acetyl-CoA molecules to provide acetyl groups to ChAT for acetylcholine production.
  • Provide more choline in choline producing (cholinergic) neurons for use by ChAT.
  • Increase or upregulate the activity of ChAT.
  • Decrease the activity of AchE.

02/ Ingredients

Alpha GPC(192 mg)

There are many different types of acetylcholine precursors, but Alpha GPC has the most evidence supporting its efficacy and superior absorption through the gut wall and passage into the brain. Once in the brain, Alpha-GPC is only one step removed from becoming the bioactive neurotransmitter, acetylcholine.

Vitamin B1(64mg)

Vitamin B1, taking the form of Thiamine HCL, is included to increase the production of acetyl-CoA molecules in the brain. These are necessary molecules used to provide acetyl groups to the enzyme Choline Acetyltransferase (ChAT) so it can produce the acetylcholine neurotransmitter.

Pantethine(287 mg)

Pantethine is a high-potency form of Vitamin B-5 that shares the same role as Vitamin B-1 in its utility in generating Acetyl-CoA molecules to be used by ChAT in the production of acetylcholine

White Peony Extract(383 mg)

White peony extract enhances ChAT activity. By increasing activity of ChAT, we can accelerate the construction of acetylcholine from its chemical constituents

Acetyl-L-Carnitine(319 mg)

Acetyl-L-Carnitine is an immediate byproduct of metabolism that combines with CoA supplied by Vitamin B5 to produce Acetyl-CoA and Carnitine. At this stage in the process, this newly created Acetyl molecule is then able to join the Acetyl group of the acetylcholine molecule. Research has shown that Acetyl-L-Carnitine may also reduce mental and physical fatigue

I've been using this for a more than a year, and I can really tell a difference! Brain Food offers a noticeable increase in mental accuity that is not 'hyper' or 'buzzy' like a caffiene high. It just offers a solid sense of better cognition. I highly recommend.
